the first photo portrays the technological device in a positive light, as opposed to the latter photograph, which shows newsprint on fire. These two are meant to reflect on the modern state of journalism, in which the print medium is becoming less utilized as the internet is starting to boom. In 2008, the internet became a more used medium for news consumption among Americans than newspaper, according to a poll by the peer research center. The fire is shown in the lower portion of the picture, starting to heat up, noting that while the majority of the paper is still in tact, and still usable, it is starting to burn. The computer is shown glowing in the light, noting how the light is coming down on the computer.

  1. I really thought it was extremely creative to use these photos in a symbolic nature. It's obvious that print media is dying, but juxtaposing these pictures can drive the point without words which Professor Yaros is saying is important. A picture needs to tell a story or make a point without words. These pictures really do that. Obviously because we are on campus it would be difficult or dangerous to start a bigger fire but I think it would have been really cool if you incorporated a close up picture of a hand holding a newspaper into a flame. It would have made a more solid (obvious) point to show that because society has turned to technology we are in a sense rejecting print media (at least the younger generations.)
